Bilingual Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Valentina graduated from Weber State University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an associate’s degree in Spanish. She has her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Utah and is working towards full licensure in the state of Utah.
Valentina’s work training has included assisting in neuropsychological assessments with children, adolescents, and adults. She has aided children and adolescents with problem-solving skills, self-confidence, emotional regulation, and creating a space to celebrate creativity and strengths. Valentina has also done individual therapy with adults to help reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, shame, and stress and alleviate symptoms of past trauma. She meets her clients where they are to create a space for individuals to become more self-aware of the internalized messages they have acquired and how they present themselves in relation to others. Her passions include working with clients from different backgrounds and cultures to improve overall mental health, improve communication and satisfaction in relationships, and provide the tools to continue self-development and growth outside of therapy. Valentina can provide therapy services in both English and Spanish.
Valentina has specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.) which is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals reconsolidate traumatic memories so they no longer elicit strong emotional or physical responses. This allows thoughts to change naturally and enables individuals to experience post-traumatic growth. ART therapy can be helpful for depression, anxiety, trauma, and any distressing feelings or scenes. ART is a new therapy to Utah, but not to the greater United States, and is shown to achieve benefits much more rapidly than traditional talk therapy (usually within 1-5 sessions). More information about ART can be found here.
Valentina will be pursuing training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, A.R.T. (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), and incorporating mindfulness practices in therapy.
